CarbonSync
The founder of CarbonSync was driven by a mission — to help solve the climate crisis! As we dug deeper, it became clear that the biggest gap wasn’t intent, but enablement - Industrial Designers, who shape how products are made, lacked accessible ways to understand and act on sustainability.
Industrial designers make critical decisions that define a product’s environmental impact, yet sustainability is rarely integrated into their day-to-day workflow. Life Cycle Assessment remains complex, time-intensive, and built for specialists - making it difficult to use in fast-moving design contexts. As a result, evaluating materials, processes, and trade-offs early in the design stage becomes impractical. This creates a gap between sustainability intent and the decisions that actually shape a product.
In close collaboration with the CarbonSync team, we set out to do more than just simplify a complex system - we rethought how sustainability fits into the design process. Through conversations with industrial designers across North America and Europe, and in collaboration with sustainability experts, we built a deep understanding of existing tools and real-world workflows. This shaped an approach that brought clarity to complexity, aligning sustainability with how designers think, explore, and make decisions.
